This exhibition was planned to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Kominato Railway's opening in 2025, a railway that represents Ichihara City. Its purpose is to reflect on the journey of this regional treasure and connect it to the future.
Founded in 1925 with 1,000 local residents as shareholders, the Kominato Railway has served as a vital transportation link connecting northern and southern Ichihara, supporting the city's development and the daily lives of its people. Its station buildings and rolling stock, richly imbued with the atmosphere of the Showa era, have become popular spots, cherished by many railway enthusiasts and local residents alike. However, facing operational challenges due to depopulation in the southern area, the railway has been the focus of revitalization projects within the regional art festival “Ichihara Art × Mix.”
Therefore, our museum, aiming to be a hub for community building through art, presents the exhibition “Past and Present: All Aboard!” to illuminate and share the history and charm of the Kominato Railway through art.
