[About the Exhibition]

Ichihara Lakeside Museum will launch an exhibition of seven Chinese contemporary artists with the theme of “paper,” inviting Zheng Yan as guest curator.

Paper is one of the four great inventions (compass, gunpowder, paper, printing) in ancient China. The invention of paper promoted the exchanges of literatures, books, science and culture, which contributed to the development of the world’s civilizations. Japan was founded under the influence of Chinese civilization, not only close in distance, but also culturally closely linked. The culture developed through the medium of paper, such as calligraphy and paintings, is influenced by China in every way.

The exhibition with the  theme  “雲巻雲舒 (Yunjuan Yunshu),” which means “clouds gathering around the sun and unfolding in the sky” shows a horizon of the contemporary artistic expression of  paper used as a material.
