Following a full closure for renovations from January to April 2026, Ichihara Lakeside Museum will partially reopen through September, hosting a series of consecutive solo exhibitions by two artists with contrasting styles.
As you step through a secret entrance located in the back of the museum shop and move through the darkness, a world entirely detached from everyday life unfolds before you. Visitors stepping into the exhibition will be guided into a mysterious, alternative world.
The second installment of this series features Yuriko Sasaoka, a compelling artist who creates unique narrative worlds centered around characters and songs.
This project draws inspiration from two distinct sources: archival photographs recording the residents of a village submerged beneath the lake due to the construction of Takataki Dam, and the conceptual blueprints for the "Underwater Sculpture Park," which served as the foundation for this museum's predecessor, "Ichihara City Water and Sculpture Hill." By stepping into the shoes of the villagers herself, Sasaoka sings, plays, and exchanges memories. Guided by these historical blueprints, she transforms the layered history sedimented in this land into a physical and spatial experience.
